Project Overview
My chemistry teacher gifted me the GY6 moped as part of this educational initiative. The goal was to give students practical insight into production processes by working with one of the most well-established and commonly produced engines in the world,
With the onset of the pandemic, in-person classes were suspended, and my teacher began sending parts to the group members, who at that time included only myself. He provided remote guidance via computer, directing me on the assembly process. As the sole active participant, the project increasingly became my responsibility. Upon my teacher’s departure from the school in my sophomore year, he decided to gift me the moped, along with the remaining parts.
During the quarantine period, I utilized the opportunity to learn extensively about assembling, wiring, and lining a GY6 moped from scratch. This experience significantly enhanced my practical knowledge and skills in vehicle assembly and electrical systems. As I learned how magnetos, ignition coils, carburetors and more worked. And how I could adapt them for my own needs and uses for different outcomes that what they where designed for.
Throughout this project, I gained valuable lessons in practical engineering applications, adaptability, and problem-solving. Working remotely during the pandemic, I developed resourcefulness and innovation by repurposing and adapting components. The experience also taught me self-reliance and responsibility, as I managed the project independently from start to finish. Additionally, I improved my remote collaboration skills and learned the importance of patience and perseverance in overcoming complex challenges.
